Covid-19 Club Update

Dear Swimmer, parents and carers
I never anticipated I would be writing an email such as this just a few weeks ago. I thought after a challenging couple of years with the ongoing building work at the centre we would be finally settling into, and enjoying our new environment and the club would be looking at building on and championing our ongoing success. Instead I’m writing to confirm that due to the current Covid- 19 crisis we have closed our doors for an unknown length of time.
I’m sure with schools, leisure and retail outlets closing we are all worried and concerned about the impact on our swimmers education, fitness and emotional wellbeing. Without a doubt this is going to be a challenging time for our community and the nation.
Finances and Fees The financial impact on small businesses and sports clubs such as ours will be untold and I know many will not manage to survive the storm. However, I feel positive when I say we will be there on the other side. Although we will still have some overheads we have been lucky in the fact that Trafford Leisure have cancelled all fees in regards to pool hire. With this in mind I can confirm that the club will not expect monthly training fees to be paid during this period. Can I ask that all members ensure fees are paid up to date for March and then cancel any active standing orders from April. The club doesn’t want to be in a position later in the year where we need to refund or credit fees. Our sincere thanks to those parents who have already contacted the club and offered to continue to pay fees throughout this period it has been such a kind gesture.
As yet the club has not requested the annual membership fees for 2020. The intention was to request that these were paid by the 1st April 2020 (Usually collected along side Swim England Fees in Jan) The cost is £35 for the first swimmer in a family with subsequent swimmers paying £25 each. If families are able to pay these fees this will support us until we are back to business as usual.
If any family either now or when we reopen find themselves in financial difficulties due to the current situation please do not hesitate to ask for support, we would not want to lose swimmers because of the costs involved and will help in anyway we can. This will of course be in confidence.
Future Events Swim England’s current guidance has advised against all aquatic events until at least the end of May. Therefore those of you who had entered the Head to Head with Stretford in April will realise this now will not be going ahead. If anyone wishes to be refunded please let the club know or we can carry forward any payments if we are able to successfully rearrange the meet at a later date.
The clubs annual Sprint Meet is scheduled for early July at Irlam Leisure. We are going to continue with planning this event as usual but obviously this will depend on any wider restrictions that remain in place that relate to aquatic activity.
We will also  continue to plan our annual swim camp at Ellesmere College in August. You can still request for your swimmer to be considered for a place but again the camp will only go ahead if restrictions have been lifted around attending school and aquatics events. I think it is too soon to say either way.
Swimmer Fitness and Wellbeing There is obviously going to be an impact on performance from a prolonged period away form the pool. Our coaching team are currently looking at exercise plans that will maintain some of the fitness of our swimmers and how we can keep them engaged and feeling part of our amazing team. We are hoping to do this via a social media platform. We will update you as soon as we have a more detailed plan but please find attached a basic daily work out and daily stretch plan for swimmers to complete.
Finally stay safe and stay strong. In true FST style we will get through this together. The club will remain in touch, with you our members, on a regular basis.
Take care, stay home and stay in touch,
Michelle DoranFlixton Swim Team Chairperson
